Philip Randall Sim - Director
Philip Sim (Phil) founded Australian Building Services (ABS) Home Owners Warranty eight (8) years ago out of frustration with the Home Owners Warranty (HOW) market. There were various restrictions placed on the residential builders from the insurance companies and Phil wanted to provide an alternative.
Phil’s 45 years experience in the construction industry meant he understood what was needed and he secured a facility, through Lumley General Insurance. This facility offered the residential builders an unlimited warranty certificate which enabled builders/contractors to build any size project that would otherwise have been rejected through their normal HOW. It also, more importantly, provided a service from ABS to manage each project, especially during the crucial stages. No other company in Australia offered this product.
A similar concept to manage the builder was later implemented by the NSW Government - Self Insurance Corporation (SICORP), called the Managed Builder Program (MBP). Phil, through ABS, secured a tender with the NSW Government - SICORP to assist builders with the MBP facility. The MBP facility gave new builders the opportunity to start in the market and provided existing builders with a warranty to work outside their normal profile, subject to conditions set out by the Government and the insurance agents, QBE Insurance and Calliden Insurance.
Phil’s experience in the construction industry is extensive and consults as an expert witness for legal matters. This enables him to assist builders/clients through mediation when issues arise in a project and the communication breaks down between a builder and their client. As a building inspector, Phil can also assist builders as well as owners/owner builders with inspections, providing defects reports, dilapidation reports, etc.
ABSHOW has evolved from a company that deals with Home Owners Warranty, to a company that offers additional services including general insurance products, using our authorised representative facility through Savill Hicks Corporation Insurance Brokers.

Kris Fonmoa - Director
Kris Fonmoa began his career in the insurance industry twenty (20) years ago with Royal Sun Alliance insurance company, now known as VERO. He started in general insurance and later changed to the brokering side of the business.
The transition to broking started nine (9) years ago with one of the most experienced insurance brokers in the market, Brookvale Insurance Brokers (BIB), he then moved to Master Builders Association NSW (MBA).
Kris joined ABS in 2007 and brought insurance knowledge to the company. The combination of Kris’ insurance knowledge and Phil’s construction knowledge means ABS offers over sixty (60) years experience in the market.
Australian Building Services (ABS) teamed up with one of the largest construction insurance brokers, Savill Hicks Corp Insurance Brokers (SHC), and Kris, under ABS, became an authorised representative for this broker. As a result of the partnership with SHC, ABS are now able to provide a ‘one stop shop’ for all general insurance products catering for one of Australia’s biggest industries, the construction industry.
